Pápa is located at the junction of the Bakony hills and the Small Plain (Kisalföld). Abundant in historic monuments, it is one of the most beautiful small towns of Central Europe. The Great Church, built in late Baroque style between 1774 and 1786 according to the plans of Jakab Fellner, is located in the Baroque style Main Square which determines the townscape. The aristocratic palace of the Esterházy family is located behind the church, on the site of the former medieval castle. The park of the Esterházy palace is a nature conservation area. The Blue Dyeing Museum is the only museum of this kin din Hungary where the collection of equipment is still operable, allowing the presentation of the profession of blue-dyers. The historical heritage, the cultural programs offered, the new thermal bath open thought the year offer range of recreation possibilities for visitors.
