Pangi is a small valley located between the border of Jammu and Kashmir, with Chamba valley in the south and Kullu valley to the east. The Chandrabhaga river flows through this valley and this river is fed by numerous tributaries that flows from the sides of the valley. The town remains isolated for 7 months in the year due to snow and erratic climate. This is one of the most unexplored areas of Himachal Pradesh, full of natural vista and hidden groves.

HistoryEdit

Pangi is located in the Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh. The Pangi valley is divided into Saichu, Hudan Bhatori and Sural Bhatori valleys. Located between the Middle and the Greater Himalayas, Pangi is 173 km from its district headquarters Chamba via Saach Pass. There are beautiful valleys within Pangi region like Sural, Saichu, Kumar-Parmar, Hundan and Sechu. All these valleys are connected with Zanskar. People of Pangi valley are mainly Hindu with a small population of Buddhist. Some people live in higher reaches of the valley called Bhatoris such as Sural Bhatori, Hundan Bhatori, Parmar Bhatori, Chasak Bhatori and Hilu-Twan. There are number of exciting treks from Pangi valley to Keylong (Lahaul valley), Manali (Kullu) and Kishtwar in Kashmir.

By Air : Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Chamba. It is 80 km away from Chamba and a cab will charge about Rs 1,400-1,500 for travel from Dehradun to Chamba. Nearest International airport is New Delhi, which is about 294 km away and is well connected to most of the major foreign cities.

By Train : Rishikesh railway station is the nearest railhead which is about 71 km away. The station is well connected to many major cities in India. The taxi charge between Rishikesh and Chamba is about Rs 1,000.

By Bus : Chamba bus station is about 3 km away from the heart of the town. Taxi charge is less than Rs 100. Chamba is well connected by public transport system to all nearby cities.
