Detail InformationEdit

Overlooking the famous Ronda gorge cleft by the Guadalevin River, the back gardens of the Rey Moro Palace are a Romantic corner in the old town. A stately residence built next to the Guadalevín River gorge. Its structure adapts to the uneven terrain with stairs, corridors and several floors. Inside there is a long staircase carved in the rock, leading to an old water mine from Moorish times. At there back there are some gardens – Forestier – designed by the French landscape gardener Jean-Claude Forestier (1923).
They consist of several landscaped terraces set out on the gorge’s slope, in the manner of hanging gardens, recreating the Spanish-Moorish landscaping tradition with the Western European tradition. Tiles, fountains, ponds and other decorative elements adorn its botanical wealth: cedar trees, oleanders, palm trees, laurels and myrtles, amongst others, which give the gardens intimate yet exotic colours and aromas.
