The architect of this building was Juan Guas. It was built at the wish of the second Duke of Infantado, Íñigo López de Mendoza, in the 15th century.
Íñigo López de Mendoza intended it to have the status of the palace Felipe II was building in Madrid. He even contracted the same Italian painters as El Escorial to create the wall painting scenes. This paintings, as well as the façade, the courtyard and the decorated ceilings, form part of the remodelling phase carried out by Acacio de Orejón by order of the fifth Duke of Infantado. It has Gothic and also Mudejar elements, but this palace is considered to be in its own style: ‘Mendocine’. Mudejar decoration is reflected in the tiles, grills and coffered ceilings. Right in front of the façade with the Mendoza arms there was a square. On one side there was also a Moorish park, which later was Renaissance style. Site of the Guadalajara Provincial Museum.
