Garfield marched his brigade on the town of Paintsville. Paintsville is the county courthouse of Johnson County. It’s set on the mouth of Paint Creek at the Levisa Fork of the massive Sandy watercourse. Originally referred to as Paint Lick Station, the city was established in 1834, once being set move into 1826. Paint Lick Station was named in military dispatches as early as 1780. Paint Creek and Paintsville were named in relevancy drawings found on trees, believed to be drawn by Native Americans. It’s believed that the post workplace was originally referred to as Paint Creek, however was renamed Paintsville before 1843. The founding father of the city is acknowledged to be William Henry Dixon.
