Detail InformationEdit
The foundation of Desselbrunn´s Parish Church is dating back to Emperor Joseph II, a son of the Empress Maria Theresia. The wonderful church in late Gothic style is well-preserved. It´s precious pointed windows were modified later and decorated in a different way. The mighty tower was covered by a saddleback roof which was replaced by a lovely onion-shaped tower during the Baroque period. In the southern entrance area you find a wonderful, hand-forged railing.
Among the most remarkable possessions in the church´s interior is the one-nave hall in Gothic style. The giant triumphal arch connects the altar area with the main nave boasting a fantastic rib vault. An infinite number of wonderful pointed arches in the west-facing galleries rank among the church´s highlights.
In 1802 the two-story high altar was redecorated by adding Baroque-style columns created by Joachim Ertl, a sculptor from Lambach. Since 1990 the old parish church is used as the town´s Chapel and mortuary.
