Olancha (formerly, Olanche) may be a census-designated place in Inyo County of the U.S. State of Calif.. Olancha is found on U.S. Route 395 in Calif., thirty seven miles (60 km) sou’-sou’-east of Independence, at Associate in Nursing elevation of 3658 feet (1115 m). As of the 2010 census, the population was 192, up from 134 at the 2000 census.
Located within the Owens depression next to the currently largely dry Owens Lake, the arid settlement is home to a significant drinking water plant for Crystal Geyser Natural Alpine Spring Water.
Olancha is Associate in Nursing unorganized community settled within the Owens depression on the jap slope of the Sierra Silver State geological formation at the elevation of three,650 feet (1,110 m), in Inyo County, California. It’s on United States of America road 395 close to the junction of State Route one hundred ninety, around two hundred miles (320 km) northeast of la. Owens Lake – a dry saline lakebed – lies to the northeast of Olancha. Olancha Creek flows from the slopes of close Olancha Peak (12,123 ft), passing close to the city of Olancha, and at last towards Owens Lake. To the east of city lie some sand dunes, furthermore as a fountain called “Dirty Socks”.
Part of the film Bug (2007) directed by William Friedkin, leading Ashley Judd, archangel Claude Shannon and Harry Connick, Jr., was recorded in Olancha. Different films recorded in or close to Olancha embody Iron Man (2008), Panic in Motion (2005), stuffer (2008), and Tremors (1990). The post-punk power quartet The raptor recorded a song titled “Olancha” in 2005 galvanized by musician Jesse Sateriale’s experiences from his infancy within the city. Close musician Harold Budd (raised within the desert city of Victorville, CA) recites his “Poem: Distant lightweights of Olancha Recede” on the album By the Dawn’s Early Light (1991, All Saints). “Olancha Farewell” may be a short synthesizer piece on Budd’s album pretty Thunder (1986, Editions EG).
