Ōkunitama Shrine is a shrine located in Fuchu, Tokyo Japan. Six different shrines in Musashi province were consolidated and their gods enshrined here. Ōkunitama is now known as one of the five major shrines in Tokyo, the others being Tokyo Great Shrine, Yasukuni Shrine, Hie Shrine and Meiji Shrine.
Ōkunitama Shrine is said to have been founded in 111 by Emperor Keikō. It was here that Minamoto no Yoritomo prayed for his wife’s safety during labour, while Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and Minamoto no Yoshiie prayed for victory against Mutsu Province.
