Detail InformationEdit
Hlunnindasyningin is a museum dedicated to the gifts of Nature in the Breidafjordur area and their utilization, especially in the past. The birds provided eggs and meat and the precious eiderdown used in duvets and pillows. The seals provided meat and skin. Here you can learn about the treatment of these goods as practiced for centuries and even up to the present day. The Breidafjordur area is unique as even in the hardest times and worst famines in Iceland the people here never starved, thanks to the abundant gifts of Nature. In the museum you can see many of the birds that were utilized, and, as a contrast, the gigantic white-tailed eagle. The museum is in the same building as the Tourist Information, a few hundred meters before entering the village of Reykholar.
