Featuring a spa town and 69 suburbs, Nis is the third largest city in Serbia. Sprawled over a 597 square kilometer area, Nis is one of the oldest cities within the Balkans in Europe, largely considered as a gateway between the east and the west. One of the major industrial centers in Serbia, Nis currently represents a bustling electronics, mechanical, textile and tobacco industry and trade. As a regional capital of southeast Serbia, Nis is located at a distance of 240 kilometers from Belgrade, 150 kilometers from Sofia and 200 kilometers from Skopje.
Surrounded by a number of mountains, two rivers and a couple of beautiful gorges within a valley, Nis has been historically important since ages. The birthplace of Constantine the Great and two other Roman emperors, Constantius III and Justin I, Nis is also home to some of the oldest Christian churches dating back to the 4th century.
