Although very few Roman remains are available today, fragments of the old city wall and foundations of the amphitheatre can still be traced. Well known for its large student population and left-wing politics, Nijmegen is home to the Radbound University which was founded in 1923. Displaying one of the warmest climates within Netherlands, especially during the summer season, Nijmegen is situated at about an hour’s driving distance from Eindhoven. Located near the German border within the southeastern regions of the Netherlands, Nijmegen with a 2000 year old history is considered to be the oldest city in the country.Srved by Airport Weeze which is located close to the German border, at a distance of 45 kilometers to the southeast of Nijmegen is also conveniently accessible by train and bus services. Host to several events including the famous International Four Day March Nijmegen which consists of 30 to 50 kilometers of walking everyday for four days, along with a rock festival which has been drawing large crowds for the last few years, Nijmegen is prominently liberal and a strong advocate of religious reforms as well.
