Niagara Falls is a Canadian city on the Niagara River in the Golden Horseshoe region of Southern Ontario, with a population of 82,997 at the 2011 census. The municipality was incorporated on June 12, 1903. Across the Niagara River is Niagara Falls, New York.
The Niagara River is basically a large drain carrying waters from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario which drop from a height of 173 feet at the Horseshoe Falls. Known as the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side and the American Falls towards America, Niagara Falls is the most powerful waterfalls within North America. Situated on the Niagara River which forms an international border between Canada and the USA, these falls are located at a distance of 27 kilometers from Buffalo, New York and 121 kilometers to the south-southeast of Toronto in Canada.
There has been a continuous settlement near the falls ever since the 17th century. Niagara Falls is a Canadian City which has self-proclaimed itself as the honeymoon capital of the World, features a well developed tourist area alongside the falls and the gorge. With provisions for huge parking lots, high-rise hotels, casinos, theatres, souvenir shops and observation towers, Niagara Falls definitely is an enchanting experience.
