New Tehri, located in Uttarkhand, was a princely state that was ruled by the Garhwal Kingdom during the British period. There are a few attractions that are available for tourists. Since the town is located in the confluence of the Yamuna and the Ganga it is also considered a holy place. The Tehri dam which is an architectural marvel is a famous tourist spot. The dam has the largest manmade lake in India. It is home to many species of fish. However many of the old buildings have survived. There are many temples that can be found and some of them are, Ragunathji Temple, Surkhanda Devi Temple and many others. There are many picnic sites that can be found in and around the area of the town. Some of them are Dhanulti and Dev Prayag. There are trekking spots that are located in the surrounding areas and are a good place to visit during the summer.

By Air : Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun is the nearest at a distance of 107 km. Flights from Delhi and Chandigarh operate to Dehradun. Taxis are available from Delhi to reach Tehri. However, many tourists prefer to travel to Tehri from Delhi (298 km) by road. Delhi is well connected to all the major parts of the country and most major cities across the world.

By Train : The closest railway station is located at Rishikesh. Since Rishikesh is an important religious center, there are many trains that are available to Rishikesh from various parts of the country. There are taxis that are available from Rishikesh to New Tehri and they are the best option. Taxis are cheap and comfortable and can be found in stands outside the railway station.

By Bus : Luxury buses from Dehradun can cost around Rs 500. These are a good option as they are comfortable and are relatively cheap.
