Nellore is an important city that is situated in the Nellore District of the State of Andhra Pradesh. Nellore is an important center as it lies in the main road that links the cities of Vijayawada and Chennai. The city is strategically important and it has a well developed infrastructure. The city is situated on the banks of the River Penna. It is mainly an agricultural center and many different varieties of crops are produced in the region. The city is also famous for its various temples that are located in the vicinity. Some of the main temples that are located in the city are the Penchala Kola, Ayyapa Temple and Narasimha Swami Konda. There are other temples that can be visited in the city as well, they are the Jonnavada, Kamahshi Amavari Temple, Rajarajesjwari Temple and the Golgamundi Venkaya Swamy Temple. Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple which is located on the banks of river was built in the 12th century and is one of the most visited temples in the region. It is also one of the oldest known temples that are located in the city of Nellore. The place has been ruled by the Satavahanas, Pallavas, Pandyas, Cholas, and many other dynasties. Most of them have left their influences in the city.

Nellore also known as Vikrama Simhapuri. Historically, the place has very importance. Culturally, Ne llore city stands unique among the other towns of Andhra Pradesh as it is supposed to be the place where the greatest of the Telugu poets, Tikkana Somayaji, who translated the major part of Mahabharata into Telugu, lived. Potti Sriramulu, Telugu patriot and activist, who fasted to death for the formation of Andhra state within the Indian Union was from Nellore. There are many places of Historical importance, the Ranganayakula Temple on the bank of the river Penna, the Udayagiri fort, the Narasimha Konda, Penchala kona, Venkatagiri fort, Mypadu beach, famous rocket launching centre at Sriharikota, the Krishnapatnam port, Nelapattu

By Air : Since Nellore doesn’t have its own airport, Chennai airdrome receives the air-traffic of the city. It is connected with all the major cities of India and has several international contacts too. This airport is sited at a distance of 170 kms from Nellore. You can hire taxis, board a train or take state buses for getting there from the airport.

By Train : Nellore Railway Station is located on the Waltair – Chennai broad gauge line. Owing to this, it is connected with all the major towns and cities within Andhra Pradesh. To catch trains for other parts of India, you can either head for Chennai or Hyderabad. By train, it takes around 3 hours to reach Chennai and 10 hours to reach Hyderabad.

By Bus : There are frequent bus services from most of the important cities in the State. It is also well connected to many places in Tamil Nadu due to the close proximity. Both government and private buses are available.
