Nekemte is a market town in western Ethiopia. Nekemte was the capital of the former Welega Province, and is home to a museum of Wollega Oromo culture. It is a burial place of Onesimoos Nasiib, a famous Oromo who translated the Bible to Oromo Language for the first time, in collaboration with Aster Geno. It is also the seat of an Apostolic Vicariate of the Roman Catholic Church. The Federal government has announced that a university will be built in Nekemte, one of 13 planned for the entire country in the immediate future. It is served by an airport (ICAO code HANK, IATA NEK).
