Naukuchiatal or ‘lake of nine corners’ is a small hill station in Nainital district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Naukuchiatal, meaning nine cornered lake, is the deepest lake in the Lake District of Kumaon. The lake is known for its tranquility and for the orchards and dense oak forests that surround it. Naukuchiatal lake is fed by an underground perennial spring. There is a strong belief among locals that one who sees all nine corners at one glance will attain Nirvana or Salvation. Tourists can take a walk around the dense lush green forest. One can hire boats for boating. Tourists can enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding terraced fields and meadows.

By Air : Delhi International airport is the nearest one, which is 320 km away from Naukuchiatal. Delhi airport is well connected with major cities within the country and abroad. Taxis are available from Delhi and it takes about 9 hours to reach Naukuchiatal and fare is about Rs 6500.

By Train : Kathgodam Railway station, about 35 km away from Naukuchiatal, is the nearest railhead. Pre-paid taxi services are available from Kathgodam to Naukuchiatal which costs about Rs 750. Regular train services are available from Kathgodam to Delhi and also to other cities in India.

By Bus : Naukuchiatal is well connected with nearby cities like Nainital (26 km) in the state. Tourist and State owned bus services are available from Delhi to Naukuchiatal.

By Taxi : Taxis will be available from Naukuchiatal to the other nearby cities for fares ranging around Rs 13 per kilometer. They would also take tourists within the city, but their focus is on highway travel. This is a good option to get in and around the place.
