National Botanical Garden is a Government institution holding documented collections of living plants for the purpose of scientific research, conservation, display and education. The garden spreads over an area of 82 ha. of varying topography and exposure of which 35 ha. has been developed into various Garden units such as Physic Garden. The garden holds many species of medicinal plantsmostly indigenous. Some of the valuable species are Justicia adatoda, Ricinus communis, Phylanthus emblica, Digitalis purpurea, Valerians jatamansi, Ephedra gerardiana, Podophyllum, Mentha, Justicia adhatoda, Vetiveria zezanoides, etc.
