Nalgonda is a town that is located in the Nalgonda District of the State of Andhra Pradesh. The place has been around for many centuries and evidence of Paleolithic and Neolithic sites have been found in the area. The place was ruled by the Bahamani Kingdom and it later came under the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Different influences can be seen in the area as it was rule by different people at different times. The town was earlier known as Nilagiri and was later changed for official purposes. The place experiences drought like conditions. Due to the lack of water, development of the area has been affected.Many archeological sites can be seen in the area and evidence of flint and tools from the Neolithic period has been found. The place is one of the oldest inhabited areas in the region. The region was also ruled by the Pallavas for certain and they fought with the Yadavas in order to gain supremacy over the region. Nalgonda came under Muslim rule after the Bahami rulers occupied the place. It was also ruled by the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Mughal Kings. Nalgonda is also infamous for its part in the telengana rebellion.

Nalgonda is a municipal town in the Nalgonda district of the state of Andhra Pradesh. But the popular name, Nallagonda, with which it is referred to by one and all and finds the name frequently even in “Poetry of the famous Telangana Liberation Struggle”, should be restored back in view of its history and popular usage.Today, Nalgonda is an important part of Andhra Pradesh from the point of view of tourism. The reason is that Nalgonda receives a major part of its economy from tourism since it does not have any other major business to depend upon.Some of the interesting places worth visiting at Nalgonda are Mattapalli, Pillalmari, Rajiv park, the Phanigiri Buddhist Sites, the Panagal Temple, the Nandikonda, the Lateef Sheb Dargah, the Kollanpaku Jain Temple, the Rachakonda Fort, Mellachervu, the Deverakonda Fort and the Bhuvanangiri Fort. All these places hold a lot of significance in the history of Nalgonda.

By Air : The nearest airport is located at Hyderabad and this is the best option for those who are arriving by air.

By Train : Nalgonda station is located along the Guntur to Secunderabad line and there are a few important trains that are arriving at the station. Some of the trains that travel through the station are Vishaka Express, Hyderabad-Chennai Express, Palnad Express, Nagarjuna Express and many other trains. These are a good option as the trains are cheap. Tickets have to be booked in advance as they are always in demand.

By Bus : The road transport system is also good and there are many buses that ply regularly to and fro from Nalgonda.

By Taxi : There are private taxis and prepaid taxis that are available from the airport to Nalgonda. Prepaid taxis are the best option as they are safe and the price is fixed in advance. Taxis charge around Rs 1500 for the trip from the airport to the town of Nalgonda. The drive takes around 2 houRs and it is advisable to hire A/C caRs during the summer as the temperatures can be extremely hot.
