Nagzira Wild Life Sanctuary has an area 152.81 sq. km. This sanctuary is locked in the arms of nature and adorned with picturesque landscape, luxirous vegetation. It has got immense potentials from biodiversity conservation point of view. The sanctuary has diverse type of vegetation ranging from dry mixed forest to moist forest. Forest type is southern tropical dry decidious forest. The major tree species are teak, ain, haldu, dhawda, Tendu, Moha etc. The vertebrate fauna of sanctuary includes 166 species of birds, 36 species of reptiles, and 34 species of mammals like Tiger, Panther, Jungle cat, Wolf, Jackel etc. The sactuary has got immense potentials for providing wildlife education. Nearly 30000 tourists visits this sanctuary annually. Five watch cabins are four watch towers are located for wild life conservation.

HistoryEdit
The area was declared a reserve forest on February 20, 1879 under Section 34 of the Indian Forest Act of 1878. In 1970, Nagzira was declared a wildlife sanctuary. In 1984, it was brought under the charge of the Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Nagpur. Only one village named Thadezari is located within the boundary of the reserve. The Mahadeo temple at Pongezara, bordering the sanctuary attracts huge crowds during Mahashivaratri.

Bus : The town of Gondia is connected to other major places in the region through a good network of buses. Some of the important destinations that buses from Gondia ply to are Nagpur, Pune, Ahmednagar, Wardha, Jalna and Aurangabad. This is because the town of Gondia is located in the Mumbai to Kolkata highway that passes via Nagpur. Bus fares from the city of Pune to Gondia will range around Rs 750 for the basic class of travel. Buses from the city of Nagpur to Gondia will charge around Rs 600.
