Nagaur is a city in the state of Rajasthan located in the Nagaur district. The town was originally founded by a group of people called the Naga Kshatriyas. The place is also called as Khatwan. The town has a Muslim history as well. It was the center of invasion for raiding parties from Central Asian countries. The Nagaur Fort is an important building and it is the main tourist attraction in the place. The fort is built with sandstone and has been the epicenter of many battles and skirmishes. The fort was built in the 2nd century and there are many exquisite temples and buildings inside the Nagaur Fort.Another important place in the city is the Tarkeen Dargah. It is an important site for many Muslims in the area and the town has a strong community of Muslims. The town also has a Jain Temple that has been built from glass and this is an important and sacred center for many Jains in the area as well.Some of the other tourist places in the area are Bansiwala Temple, Cenotaph of Amar Singh, Nath ki Chathri, Barli and Saji ki Tanka. The Khinsvar Fort is located around 50 km away and this 500 years old fort is also a worth visiting site. Nagaur fair, which is held every year, is the second largest cattle fair in India, where over 70,000 animals and their traders took part. Additionally, the Nagaur Sufi Music festival held during the month of February every year also draws lot of visitors.

Nagaur (Nāgaur) is a city in the state of Rajasthan in India. It is the administrative headquarters of Nagaur District. The Nagaur city lies about midway between Jodhpur and Bikaner. Nagaur is a historical town that houses an ancient fort, many palaces and shrines. Nagaur is far- famed for its colorful and one of the biggest cattle fairs that are held in the state. The farming Jats and Bishnoi community mainly inhabit this place. Nagaur has a rustic charm of its own and the sight of red chillies being dried in extensive fields is very pleasing for the beholder.One of the major attractions of Nagaur is twenty luxurious tourist camps or tents that offer a comfortable stay with modern amenities within a different backdrop. Such stay in the camps offers an out of the world experience to the tourists.

By Air : Jodhpur airport is located around 140 km from the place and this is the closest domestic airport. It is an important airport in the state and is connected to places such as Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur and a few more places. The closest international airport is the Jaipur Airport and it receives frequent flights from Dubai and Muscat. Taxis are available from both the airports and they charge around Rs 7 per km for a non A/C sedan such as Tata Indica.
By Train : The Nagaur Railway Station is connected to places such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Delhi. Trains are a popular option among the tourist and are often over booked. Reservations have to be made before a minimum of 2 months in advance. Tickets from Delhi cost around Rs 150 for a second class compartment.
By Bus : Nagaur is also connected by Rajasthan State Transport buses from Ajmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Jaipur. Regular bus services are available from the city of Delhi as well. Tickets from Jodhpur cost around Rs 100.

Nagaur Fair ; Venue: Nagaur ; Period : January and February ; Details: Held every year during the month of January and February, in Nagaur, it is essentially a cattle fair. Besides, trading of cattle takes place, various local games, camel & horse races, cock fights are organised in this four day festival. The local music and dance creates a joyous atmosphere across the tranquil desert sand.
