Detail InformationEdit
Stanisław Lubomirski, one of the most influencial Polish magnates of the times, commenced the building of the castle in Łańcut in the years 1629-1641. He surrounded the building with deep moats and fortifications with bastions on the corners. Created in this way the palazzo in fortezza successfully resisted the Swedish invasion of 1655 and Rakoczy’s army attack of 1657. At the turn of the 18 th and 19 th centuries the castle was converted into a magnate’s mansion and functioned as a palace. The interior was decorated with stuccowork, paintings and sculptures. The park was extended and an orangery was built here. After the war one of the richest and most outstanding interior museums was created here. The palace complex is surrounded by an antique, picturesque park arranged in the English style. In the buildings of the Stable and the Coach house, one can admire the collection of horse-drawn vehicles, which is the biggest in Poland and one of the biggest in Europe. Łańcut Castle is frequently the centre of many cultural, scientific and social events, often of international importance. Every year Festivals of Classical Music are organised here.
