The history of Muzaffarnagar dates back to the Mughal period. The city was set up by Sayyid Jagirdar in 1633 and he named the place in the honour of his father Muzaffar Ali Khan. The reference of this place is mentioned in the history of the Indus Valley civilisation. As per legend, the war of Mahabharata was fought in the field of the village Pachenda and an army cantonment was set up in the villages namely Pandavli and Kaurawa
