The museum is located in the former Episcopal Palace of Ourense, dating from the 12th century.
It contains items dating from the Palaeolithic period to the present day. The collections of objects from the prehistoric period, fortified Iron-Age settlements and the Roman era are particularly interesting. The most important section explores the Iron-Age hill forts and features an original collection of stone sculptures and warriors. Also worth noting are the funerary offerings from megalithic tombs and a selection of Renaissance and Baroque sculptures.
