The Museo Alameda is that the largest Latino deposit within the USA and therefore the initial formal Smithsonian affiliate outside of Washington D.C., situated within the historic mart in Downtown city, Texas.
In 1996, Secretary I. Archangel Heyman of the Smithsonian establishment proclaimed a physical presence of the Smithsonian in city and gave birth to the Smithsonian’s affiliations program. In might of an equivalent year, Governor St. George W. Bush signed a resolution of the Lone-Star State assembly establishing the Museo Alameda because the official State Latino deposit.
The Museo Alameda opened to the general public in Apr 2007, and has since showcased work from throughout the u. S. And every one of geographic area. Past Exhibitions include: Phantom Sightings: Art when the Chicano Movement (March 2009), yank Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular music genre (June 2009), Escultura Social: a brand new Generation of Art from Ciudad de Mexico (July 2008), Myth, Mortals, and Immortality: Works from Museo Soumaya First State México (June 2008) and Azucar! The Life and Music of Celia Cruz (September 2007).
The Museo has additionally displayed the work of many native city artists together with Alex Rubio and Vincent Valdez in their 2007 exhibition San Anto: Pride of the Southside/En El Mero Hueso (December 2007) and Jesse Treviño in his 2009 exhibition Jesse Treviño: Mi Vida (October 2009).
