The longest and best conserved section is located along the street known as the Calle Paraíso. Other remnants can be seen in the Postigo Alto, along the streets of Sol, Mendizábal, and Jovellanos, and in the Plaza Mayor Square. The medieval walls of Oviedo is the fortification that protected the city of Oviedo , Asturias , Spain .
King Alfonso II the Chaste of Asturias moved at the beginning of his reign (791 – 842) the capital of the kingdom to the city of Oviedo where he began an extensive building program providing the city of churches, monasteries, palaces and a defensive wall that surrounded the whole in that precinct including the Monastery of San Vicente , founded in the time of his father King Fruela I , and that was the origin of the city.
In 1258 , King Alfonso X the Wise of Castile and Leon ordered the construction of a new city wall skirting the works council in two thirds of the total and the Church the other third.
The perimeter of the wall was 1,400 meters, had a height of 4 meters and a thickness of 2.20 meters. He got into two parallel walls of 0.5 meters wide irregular limestone masonry with intermediate filling stone. Although it has been assumed the completion of the wall at the end of the thirteenth century or early fourteenth , yet in the year 1495 the Catholic Monarchs granted a tax to build towers and gates in the wall.
