Munsiyari is a town that is present in the Pithoragarh district of the state of Uttarnchal. The town is located at the base of the Himalayan Mountains. The town is the spot where many Himalayan treks have their origin. The town is located on the banks of a river called the Goriganga. The place is fast becoming an important tourist destination among many trekkers and mountain climbing enthusiasts. Some of the main treks in the area are Namik Trekk, Milam Trekk and the Ralam Glacier Trekk. Permits are required for trekking into the inner line places. The place is surrounded by many snow clad peaks and the views from Munsiyari are phenomenal. The town is situated at the gateway to the Johar Valley and many high altitude climbers, nature enthusiast and other visitors can be found here throughout the year. The hill station has a pleasant climate for many months of the year. However it is advisable to avoid visiting during the monsoon season as the conditions can be wet and activities such as trekking will not be possible. Summers are comfortable for the most part. Winters are cold and woolens are required while travelling during this season. The best time to visit the place is from March – June and September and October. There are many small waterfalls that are located near the town as well and these are interesting picnic spots. One of the main waterfalls in the region is the Vrithi Falls.

By Air : The closest airport is located at Pantnagar and this is situated around 250 km from the hill station. Pantnagar is connected to Delhi by scheduled flights. Taxis from the airport are the easiest option to reach the place and they charge Rs 7 per km.
By Train : The closest railway station is located at Kathodgam. Kathodgam is well connected to many places in the country. Tickets from Delhi cost around Rs 140. Taxis can be hired from the station to the hill town and they charge around Rs 2200 for the trip.
By BUS : Munsiyari can be reached by buses from places such as Kathgodam and Tanakpur by frequent buses. Tickets cost around Rs 150.
By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
