The Mount Stony Brook Observatory is AN astronomical observatory operated by Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York. It’s placed on the roof of the world and area Sciences Building.The dome contains a Meade 14″ Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope and SBIG (SBIG-STL1001e) imaging instrumentation.
The telescope is employed for teaching college boy and graduate physical science labs by the department, also as by the physical science club. The observatory’s imaging capabilities are wont to monitor variable stars. On the primary Friday of each month throughout the varsity year the department hosts “Astronomy Open Nights” throughout that a lecture is given, followed by perceptive if the weather permits. The observatory was inbuilt 1968 and physical science Open Nights are command there since 1976. The present telescope was put in in 1981.
