Mosul also referred to as “”The City of Two Springs”” and “”The Pearl of the North”” is an ancient city that played an important role in the Arab wars of conquest. Because of its strategic location, Mosul served as an important trade center in the Abbasid era. The city is dotted with several attractive places and striking sites such as grand mosques, ancient castles, old churches and earliest monasteries.
The Mosul Museum housing a fine collection of items found from the ancient sites of Nineveh and Nimrud is one of the top tourist attractions in Mosul. Just besides the museum is the Mosul House which attract tourists towards its interesting architecture and design. Besides this, other major tourist attractions in Mosul include the ancient Umayyad Mosque which is the first mosque to be built in Iraq in the year 640 AD. Al-Hadba mosque with its unique brickwork is another important tourist attraction.
