Featuring many excellent beaches, Moroni is the capital city of Comoros and a favorite tourist spot of this region. Located on the western shores of the Grande Comore Island, Moroni is effectively served by the Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport. Founded by Arabic settlers during the 10th century with a commercial connection to Zanzibar, Moroni still has a healthy harbor with regular transportation facilities to the African mainland and within the other islands of the Comoros archipelago and the Indian Ocean. Exhibiting a tropical rainforest climate with heavy precipitation throughout the year, and although warm, Moroni remains pleasant due to frequent rainfall.
Apart from several beautiful beachfronts, the Ancienne Mosquee du Vendredi, or the Old Friday Mosque with a typical Comoro Male in front is a popular tourist attraction located within the Moroni City Center. Home to over 60,000 local residents, Moroni offers a choice of tourist accommodation options, including bars and restaurants.
