The Móri-valley – as a significant terretrial route – kept its importance in the Roman period as well. The name of town was formed from a personal name by Humgarian naming. The personal name serving as is root is the Latin Maurus personal name meaning ’Moor’, ’Saracen’. The German Moor ’Mór’ place name comes from the Hungarian language. The settlement was ecclesiastical domain as well in medieval centuries, then it became the appurtenance of the castle of Csókakő. The decades of the Turkish invasion were characterized by significant hardships. Geman settlers arrived in Mór in order to increase the economic power of the diminshed Hungarian population. Owing to the German settling, Mór became the most important settlement with national minority. The 18th century is the period of reconstruction: the Capuchine’s convent and church, the Lamberg familiy’s castle and – at the beginning of the 19th century – the Luzsénszky-castle were built.
