Modhera is a place that is situated in the state of Gujarat. It is famous for its sun temple that was built during the 11th century. The temple was built during the Solanki Dynasty and was constructed under the orders of King Bhimdev. The temple was built and dedicated for the Sun God Surya. The Sun Temple has a unique and singular architectural style and it is very similar to the Sun Temple that is located in the city of Konark. The temple consists of three main elements and these include Guda Mandap, Surya Kund and Sabha Mandap. The building has many intricate carvings and visiting it is a delight for many architecture buffs. There is a huge tank that is located in the front portion of the temple and this is an architectural feat in itself. The Sabha Mandap was used for gatherings and discourses on religion and this is an important part of the building. The entire building is still in good condition despite its age. The monsoon season starts in the months of June and the intensity of rain increases in the month of July. The months of July and August get the most amount of rainfall and this provides relief from the intense heat of the summer season. The months of October and November are a good time to visit the place as the conditions are pleasant. A dance festival is held in the month of January in the temple and this is designed to present the different forms of classical dance, in the form that it was originally presented. There are many sculptures of gods and goddesses as well in the temple as well.
