Mitchell may be a town in Lawrence County, Indiana, u. s.. The population was four,567 as of the 2000 census. Mitchell was engineered as a railroad city within the mid-19th century. At this location in Lawrence County, the Chicago, Indianapolis and urban center Railroad, higher identified by the shorter name of “the Monon”, was engineered as a north-south line from New Albany to Chicago, passing through the realm that became Mitchell in 1853. In 1857, the east-west Ohio and Mississippi Railway (later a part of the metropolis and Ohio Railroad) was completed, as a part of a link between city and St. Louis. it’s the birthplace of cosmonaut Gus Grissom, World Health Organization flew on Liberty Bell seven, Gemini 3, and died in a very launch pad hearth at Kennedy area Center in 1967.
