The Mitchell Brothers O’Farrell Theatre may be a striptease club at 895 O’Farrell Street close to San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. Opened as associate X-rated movies by Jim and Artie Mitchell on national holiday, 1969, the O’Farrell remains one in every of America’s oldest and most infamous adult-entertainment establishments; by 1980, the cabaret had become a serious force in popularizing close-contact lap saltation, which might become the norm in striptease clubs nationwide. The late journalist Hunter S. Thompson, a old friend of the Mitchells and frequent visitant at the club, claimed to be its night manager in 1985. He referred to as the O’Farrell “the Carnegie Hall of public sex in America” and man-about-town magazine praised it as “the place to travel in San Francisco!”
At the O’Farrell, male staff (including managers) should adhere to a strict dress code: black bowtie, white shirt, black slacks and black shoes. These sartorial needs began in 1986 once the O’Farrell’s then-general manager, the late Vince Stanich, noticed that each one of his male workers members were dressed otherwise (and usually not altogether presentably).The Mitchell brothers opened the O’Farrell as associate adult cinema on the positioning of a former two-story Pontiac automobile business organisation. Upstairs they created and directed the sexy films they showed downstairs. Later, observant that the cathartid Club in North Beach had been a topless bar since 1964 apparently with legal freedom, the Mitchells determined to form their institution primarily a striptease club by having their carpenter build showrooms.
