Masjid of Akhund Mulla or Akhoon Mulla is situated below the Makhdoom Sahib Shrine, which is considered as the mosque within a mosque, since the main sanctuary is a separate and detached building, placed within a courtyard surrounding the mosque. This little mosque was built by Dara Shikoh in attractive glossy grey limestone, son of Shah Jahan to honor his tutor Akhun Mulla Shah. The stone lotus erected over the podium is the only model of its type existing in Kashmir and has an inscription dated back to 1649. The main feature of the mosque is the specially constructed prayer chamber. The shrine is approachable by taxis or on foot. Besides, Hari Parbat Fort is an adjoining attraction that can be visited too.

Srinagar domestic airport is behind a high security barrier where therecan be long queues for baggage and body screening. You’ll need to show an air ticket (or e-ticket confirmation print-out) to get through so don’t come to the airport hoping to buy a ticket on departure.
