Manas National Park and wildlife sanctuary is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in the state of. The Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it is also a tiger reserve. The park has a substantial population of elephants as well. There are many endangered species of animals that can be seen in the wildlife sanctuary. Some of them are lispid hares, assam roofed turtles, pygmy hogs and golden langurs.The park was previously a hunting reserve of the Cooch Behar Royal Family. There are many villages that can be seen in the fringes of the national park as well. One village is located in the vicinity of the park itself. One can also stay at the forest bungalow inside the sanctuary. However accommodation options are limited. There are two more lodges on the periphery of the sanctuary. A popular activity in the park is taking a raft ride on the Manas River and this gives one an opportunity to see many animals in their natural setting. Forest safaris can also be arranged and these are a good way to see the sanctuary. Elephant rides are also available for short distances and these are a popular option among the children. The climate in the national park is a semi tropical type of climate and the place gets extensive rainfall during the monsoon season. Conditions can be hot and humid during the summer months. Winters are mild and temperatures are much lower during this period. The best time to visit the place is from October to March.

By Air : The city of Guwahati has the closest airport and this is the most feasible option for those who are arriving by air. The airport is connected to international destinations such as Bangkok. It is also well connected to most of the important Indian cities such as Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. Flights operate from smaller airports such as Itanagar, Shillong and Tawang to Guwahati as well. Taxis can be hired at the airport and this is the best option after a long flight journey. They cost around Rs 7 per km for a small sedan.

By Train : The closest railhead is located at Barpeta Road. This is situated around 44 kilometers away from the park. Tickets from Guwahati to Barpeta Road cost between Rs 120 and Rs 140 for a second class sleeper berth. Taxis are available from the station.
