Malampuzha Dam is one of such tourist atractions, which is located at about 10 km away from the Palakkad town. The Palakkad town is towards the North Kerala. Cochin international airport is around 120 km away. Best time to visit Malampuzha dam is between September and april months. Some of the main atractions of the place are the Malampuzha dam, boating, the ropeway and the rock garden. The name of the dam is given by the name of the place which is Malampuzha. This is a small town which is at the foothills of the Western Ghats and this place has its name from the river Malampuzha. While Malampuzha River is known to be one of the longest rivers in Kerala, the town is known to be a major tourist Arrraction and is known for its greenery and the trekking trails.

HistoryEdit

The idea for a dam in the Malampuzha region to boost agriculture started from the second decade of the 20th Century. However, it was only after India’s independence on 27th of March 1949, that the then Public Works Minister, Sri. M. Bhaktavatsalam laid the foundation stone for the project. Palakkad was a part of the Madras Presidency during those times. The dam was constructed in record time, and on October 9th 1955, the then Chief Minister of Madras, Sri. K Kamaraj, inaugurated the dam.
