HistoryEdit
Malampuzha, the History entire area was ruled by the Chera kings (Perumal Rajas) in the 1st century AD for hundreds of years and then by the Palakkad Rajas. In A.D 988, the Palakkad Raja, Nedumpurayur Nadudayavar, won over the invasion by the King of Kongunadu at Chittur. The area was later declared independence. Another division of the Palakkad area was under the Kollengode Rajas of Vengunad and a part by the Valluvakonathiris (who are considered to be descendants of the Pallava dynasty, rulers of a few parts of Kerala). In 1757, the Palakkad Raja with the help of Hyder Ali of Mysorefought the attack of the Zamorin of Calicut. Hyder Ali got the Palakkad area free that was invaded by the Zamorin. But finally, Hyder Ali took control over Palakkad and later his son Tipu Sultan was the ultimate ruler of the region. After the British defeated Tipu, they confiscated all his Malabar territories. The treaty signed with the English East India Company in 1872 resulted in the entire area coming under the British rule. Palakkad became a part of the Malabar District of the Madras Presidency until 1947. Later it came under the princely state of Cochin and Madras state (from 1947 to 1956). Palakkad district was formed in 1956. Finally after some administrative changes, the present Palakkad district was formed on 1 January 1957. Malampuzha became a part of Palakkad district.
