HistoryEdit

Earlier a garden, established by certain erstwhile Bhonsle and Maratha rulers of Vidarbha region, the Maharajbaug is now converted to a zoo where lion, tiger, leopards, peacock and other endangered and rare species of animals and birds are sheltered. Julie and Gopal was a well-known pair of leopards of this zoo who passed away of old age in 2006 AD but a little cub of this couple still resides in the Maharajbaug Zoo of Nagpur. In 2006, this zoo had to go through inspection for the issues related to the animal healthcare. The zoo was dreading a possible closure but all the objections raised by CZA were cleared out in 2007 and the zoo continued its subsistence. Presently, the Maharashtra State Government has approved a new safari park to be found near the Gorewada Lake which will be designed after the international standards and the animals from the Maharajbaug Zoo will be shifted here. Subsequently, the Maharajbaug Zoo will be ready to shelter newly arriving animals. The Maharajbaug Zoo of Nagpur endowed with plethora of pristine pulchritude and verdant green botanical gardens attracts innumerable local as well as outside visitors and nature lovers all round the year. These picturesque and fascinating gardens of Maharajbaug proffered with immaculate gorgeousness provide an ideal and idyllic location for picnicking and merry making in the vicinity of nature away from the hustle bustle of mechanical city life.
