Tourism in Macau revolves around its World-class museums, ancient heritage sites and casinos. “”The Historic Centre of Macau””, renowned for preserving the Chinese and world history is listed amongst the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is a major tourist attraction. Macau’s A-Ma Temple with its intrinsic architecture, Memorial Arch and famous halls is one of the most revered religious places in the country.
The temple complex is one of its kinds in the world representing Chinese culture and is extensively inspired by Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and other folk beliefs. The neo-classical design of the Moorish Barracks, built in 1874 has been highly influenced by the Mughal Style of Architecture. At present the building is being used as the Maritime Administration Headquarters. The casinos in Macau are at par with that of Las Vegas and Atlantic City and attract tourists from China and around the world. The Lilau Square, Mandarin’s House, St. Lawrence’s Church and Dom Pedro V Theatre are other major tourist places of interest in the country.
