Luang Prabang is a charismatic city, situated in the serene natural surroundings of lush mountains and meeting point of Mekong and Khan rivers in northern Laos. Designated as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, this prehistoric city has become the centerpiece of tourism in the country. This tiny town with fantastic temples, French-Indochinese architecture and ochre-colored colonial buildings, is considered as the heart of Laotian culture.
With its natural splendor, integral charm and miles away from modernization, this town is truly a tourist trail and is best described as the ‘Jewel in Laos Crown’. The major attractions of Luang Prabang are its historic temples and the most magnificent is Wat Xieng Thong, which is known as the Golden City Temple. Just across the river is the Mount Phu Si with many monastery on top and temples on its slopes.
