Lord Neminath temple is considered to be one of the oldest temples in the world dating back to around 84785 years. It is also one of the largest temples dedicated to Lord Neminath, the 22nd Jain Tirthankar. The followers of Jainism believe that Lord Neminath became a yogi after he saw animals being slaughtered for food in his wedding. Soon after that he decided to leave all the worldly affairs and came to Girnar. It was here that after a lot of difficulty and hardships, he attained enlightenment. Lord Neminath died at Mount Girnar after 700 years of meditation. The temple is rectangular in shape beholding the idol of Lord Neminath made out of black granite with jewelled eyes, sitting in the lotus posture.

HistoryEdit

Lord Neminath Temple was constructed between 1128 and 1159. Along with the carved ceilings, the pillars of this temple have carvings of Jain tirthankars. As per legend, Neminath died on Mount Girnar after meditating for around 700 years.
