Loknath Temple s the fomous Siva temple of Puri Located about one Kilometer away from the Jagannath Temple towards the western end. There is a popular belief that Lord Ram had installed this lingam with a Lauka or Pumpkin. The devotees come here to see Lord Loknath in order to be cured from any kind of disease. There are certain festivals observed in this temple out of which ‘Saranti-Somobar-mela’ is the important one. There is a streem on the head Sivalinga playing the roal of the Ganges and linga, it self remains under the water. The flowers, sandal paste, ‘Bilva-patra’, etc. offered to the God remain decomposed in the water emittining a special smell and teast being medicated as a whole. people take it as Prasad, in order to be cured from the disease that they suffered for.

Loknath Temple was build during 10th-11th century A.D. It is a belief that Lord Ram had installed this lingam with a Lauka or Pumpkin. The festival of Siva Ratri is observed in the temple of Lokanath with great devotion. A meeting of Siva and Vishnu takes place on the day.

Bus : Orissa road transport corporation buses connect Puri to many cities in Orissa. Frequent bus services are available from Bhubaneswar (56 km, Rs 120), Cuttack (32 km, Rs 90), Konark (36 km, Rs 90) and Kolkata (495 km, Rs 800). Orissa Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) offer deluxe buses for sight seeing tours in Puri, which costs about Rs 250 per person.
Train : Puri is a major railway junction. Regular direct train services are available from Puri to many cities in India, including Bhubaneshwar (Puri Durg Exp), New Delhi (Purushottam Exp), Chennai(Coromandel Exp), Bangalore (Prasanti Exp) and Kolkata (Puri Hwh Duronto).
Air : Biju Patnaik airport at Bhubaneswar is the nearest airport to Puri, which is nearly 56 km away from the heart of the Puri city. It costs about Rs 900 by taxi. The airport is connected to Delhi and Mumbai and the tickets are moderately priced. International travelers need to get connections through Delhi or Kolkata.
Others : Cycle Rickshaw : Cycle rickshaws are prevalent in Puri and these are the locally preferred mode of transport. Cycle rickshaws in Puri can charge you anywhere around Rs 10 to 20, depending on the distance traveled. Cycle rickshaws are quite slow, so opt for cycle rickshaws only if you have ample time. It is the cheapest mode of transport.
