Little caiman is AN island that’s a part of the Cayman Islands. It’s situated within the sea, precisely fifty eight miles northeast of Grand caiman and 5 miles (8 km) west of caiman Brac. Very little caiman incorporates a permanent population of but a hundred and seventy and is concerning ten miles (16 km) long with a mean breadth of one mile (2 km).
Most of the island is confused level. The best elevation is concerning forty feet (12 metres).
The first recorded observation of very little caiman, beside caiman Brac, was by Cristobal Colon on might ten, 1503 on his fourth and final voyage, once serious winds forced his ship off beam. At that point, he named the islands “Las Tortugas” for the various ocean turtles found living there. The islands were later renamed “Las Caymanas” for the iguanas that were thought to be caimans living there.
The first settlement on the island was within the seventeenth century, once turtle fishermen discovered camps. When a raid by a Spanish privateer, the settlements were abandoned in 1671 and also the island wasn’t settled till 1833, once Blossom Village was established by a couple of families. By the first twentieth century, a couple of hundred individuals lived on very little caiman and exported phosphate ore, coconuts, and marine rope.
