Detail InformationEdit

The Vītolnieki complex of buildings at the open-air museum is a typical traditional fisherman’s farmstead of a coastal village. An age-old dwelling house with reed roof, secured with so-called tupeles and decorated with decorative so-called stāgu gaiļi stands among old trees.
The house has a veranda with glass panes and decorated door jambs. Old wooden furniture and household objects are displayed in the rooms. A barn, an outdoor kitchen, a bathhouse, a smithy, and a former pig shed which now houses an exhibition of various fishing and crafts tools are situated next to the house. A dugout boat, made from an oak, which is more than 1000 years old, is exhibited at the museum.
