The village of Lachen lies at the distance of 126 kilometer from Gangtok. It is located at the height of 9920 feet. The numerous hot springs, pristine lakes and exciting trekking routes is what makes this destination truly appreciable. The best time to visit Lachen lies between the month of March to early July and from October to mid December. At an altitude of 8500 ft Lachen is alluring in its simplicity. Not yet as big a tourist destination as Lachung, it retains a freshness which is very appealing. Lachen is the starting point for some of the most interesting treks in North Sikkim as well as the gateway to the holy Guru Dongmar and Tso Lhamu lakes.You can visit the Lachen Gompa here and sample the simple village life of the ‘Lachenpas’. On your tour to the Lachen village, do not forget to visit the most exotic attraction of the Lachen -the Lachen Monastery. The Lachen Monastery was built in the year 1844 that belongs to the Nyingmapa order. Tourists can venture into the apple orchards and vast fields.

By Air : Flights can be taken to the nearest airport, which in this case lies in the town of Siliguri. This airport, also called as the Bagdogra Airport, is connected to all major Indian cities through a series of flights and many carriers. Regular flights to many places and destinations, including New Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata, will be available from the airport in Bagdogra. Flights are very comfortable to travel in, and charges will depend on the distance covered. Flight charges will range around Rs 4,000 to 7,000 from Bangalore to Bagdogra. Flight fares from New Delhi will range around Rs 3,500 to 7,900. Buses and jeeps will be available from the airport in Bagdogra to Lachen.
By Train : Siliguri and Guwahai have the nearest popular railway station which is well connected to many other cities. To reach Lachen from here, tourists can take buses or hire taxis.
