Kuujjuaq is that the largest Red Indian village in Nunavik, Quebec, Canada. it’s the executive capital of Nunavik and lies on the western shore of the Koksoak stream. Kuujjuaq antecedently was referred to as Fort Chimo. Chimo may be a pronunciation of the Red Indian phrase saimuuq, “Let’s shake hands!” Early fur traders were usually welcome with this phrase that they eventually adopted because the name of the general store. A fictional account of this naming is found within the novel Ungava by Henry M. Robert Michael Ballantyne.
