Salty and sweet at the same time – this is the flavour of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship, located in the northern part of Poland. The salt comes from a gigantic, underground lake, and the sweetness from the Toruń gingerbreads, with recipes which haven’t changed in years. The form of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship reminds us of the shape of …. of Poland. But this is not the only reason why it is such an interesting place from where to follow in the traces of the Polish history: nowhere else in Poland will you find such a great number of Romanesque churches and Gothic castles, which have witnessed the many and most important periods of Polish history. Today the courtyards of many reconstructed fortresses and castles ring with the clash of armor during the many tournaments organised within their walls. There is also the possibility of meeting … a ghost. This Voivodship is unique, because of the two towns which govern the region: Secession Bydgoszcz and Gothic Toruń. The latter one, on the banks of the River Wisła, listed by UNESCO, is proud of its Old Town, unaltered for centuries, built of red brick, so splendid in the light of the setting sun. Toruń is the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus, the bishop, soldier and astronomer, who revolutionized thinking about our Solar System.
