Detail InformationEdit
Up till now both walls and the moat have retained almost in their original length and they are unique worldwide.
The oldest chronicle notes prove that Kożuchów had fortifications already in 1273. However, these fortifications were built of wood and soil. At the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries they were replaced by walls built of field stones put in layers. The ring of walls was surrounded by a moat that in some places was 20 meters wide. The town could be entered by one of the three gates: Głogowska, Krośnieńska and Żagańska. In 1764, after a great fire, some parts of fortifications were demolished and their parts were used to build houses. Up till now both walls and the moat have retained almost in their original length and they are unique worldwide.
