The closeness of the border and the Danube river has always determined the life and the unique structure of Southern-Komárom having 20 000 inhabitants. The main attraction of Komárom is the medicinal water that is rich in minerals and constitutes the basis of the bathing and medicinal complex which invites guests to recover or refresh all the year round. The most famous sight of the town is the fortification system which is unparalelled in Europe. The parts of this system in Hungary are: Star fort (1871-1877), Igmánd fort (1871-1877) and Fort Monostor (1850-1871).
Other sights are: the memorial relic Roman Catholic Curch in Szőny (1774-1777), the one-time Gyürky country-seat (Selye János Hospital today), the Presbitarian Church (1787), the building of the granary (1770), the Collection of Ocean Shipping of ddr. Ferenc Juba in the building of the town hall, the Klapka György Museum (showing the frescos and finds of the ancient civic town Brigetio), the Small Gallery, the Presbitarian Church standing on the Jókai square and the Jesus’Heart Roman Catholic Church.
