Kodachadri houses one of the most famous temples in India, the Kollur Mookambika temple. The Kodachadri mountain peak rises from amidst the dense forest and this place is situated in the middle of the Mookambika National Forest in the Shimoga district. It lies about 400 km from Bangalore. The Goddess resides at the peak, which is barren due to frequent and strong winds. Apart from being home to the most endangered flora and fauna, this forest also offers a great trekking track. Trekking here is fairly difficult, although it is ideal for beginners. Kodachadri is known for its picturesque surroundings and the forest houses Malabar Langurs, King Cobras, Hyenas, Bison, and Pythons. One of the main reasons why Kodachadri is famous is because it is termed as the ‘Sarvajanapeeta’. It is said that the great philosopher Adi Shankaracharya had performed his meditation here.

Taxi : Taxies are available from Airport and Railway Station.
Bus : To reach Kodachadri (Kudajadri) one may catch a bus from Bangalore to Kollur (South Kanara Dist.) From Kollur one has to travel for around 45 minutes towards Nagara in Shimoga district. Reaching there, you’ll find a mud road where you can find a sign indicating the way towards Kodachadri. On the way you will find a small tea shop (Kaka Angadi) after one hour walk. There you will also find a small stream nearby for the early morning business. From here it is roughly 5 hours of trek to the peak. Just half-an-hour before the peak you will find a temple, which is an ideal place for camping. There is also a travellers bungalow nearby. From the temple a slight deviation would lead to ‘Agastya Teertha’. The route will take you inside dense forest it is advisable to take help from locals and not to venture at night.
Train : Nearest railway station is Shimoga. One can take train to Shimoga from Bangalore and can travel to Jog in buses from Shimoga.
Air : Nearest Airport is Bengaluru International Airport (BLR) 340 km. Shimoga airport is under construction 6 km away from the city towards Bhadravathi in a village called soganne. Another convenient airport is Mangalore International Airport (India)(Formerly Bajpe Airport) (IXE) 200 km. The other nearest airports are located in Hubli – 195 Km.
